If you are reading this article, you are probably a relative of a person with drug problems and you will be quite desperate.

You'll want to know if it's the same as a detox center, an addiction rehabilitation clinic, a therapeutic community or a psychological clinic to treat addictions.

You will ask yourself the price of detox centers if they are effective, how they work and a lot of doubts.

From the experience that gives me 10 years working with drug addicts at Rehan Rehab, I will try to help you clarify all these doubts about the treatments in the detox centers.

Although various names are used in general, a drug rehabilitation center, a detox center, a therapeutic community or a rehabilitation clinic are the same.

It is a place where a person with problems with the drugs is interned to learn to overcome the addiction.

We will see later the difference between detoxification, detoxification, and rehabilitation.

Public or private detox center?

The first choice when choosing a rehabilitation center is to be clear if we are looking for a private or public center.
Public centers are free and you have to be referred to them by a specialist.
Tell your GP that you want an appointment in the addictive behavior unit (in each Autonomous Community have a different name) or ask for an appointment directly (it is one of the few specialties that can be accessed without a doctor's book on the head).

Keep in mind that public system stock units offer several types of treatments and not all involve getting into a detox center.

It will be the doctor who values what type of treatment is most appropriate.

If the doctor asks to enter a detoxification clinic, this treatment will be free and sometimes you will have to wait several months to have a place.

Regarding the quality of the centers agreed with the public health system, we find everything.  from high-quality detox centers to centers of very dubious quality.

Before entering a center derived from public health, try to find out who manages it, what type of treatment it offers and what level of professionalization it has.

Free or paid detox center?

In Spain, we can catalog the detoxification clinics in three types, two of which are free: disinfection center
Public concerted centers, of which we have just spoken
Private detox payment centers, which we'll talk about later
Religious rehabilitation centers, free or quite cheap.

Be careful with these types of centers. Most of them replace treatment by faith, and they look much more like a sect than a drug-rehabilitated place.

There are centers, such as the men project, which, although they belong to the Catholic Church, do not fall into this last category.

They are usually centers of acceptable quality, agreed with the public system and with professionals who manage in treatment.

Private payment rehabilitation centers

In this category, we find a great variety of types of center and prices.

In general, a quality private detox center will cost between 2,000 and 6,000 euros per month.

It may seem expensive, but if they can help your son/husband, getting out of the drug is perhaps a good investment.

Search compares and hires the best possible center.

As for advice, closeness is not a good criterion for choosing the center. Find out and try to find the one that best suits the patient we want to treat.

Treatment duration

Getting rehabilitated from drug use is a long and labor-intensive treatment.

Whoever tells you it's going to be short and easy, you're probably lying.

From a summary model, we can say that a drug detox treatment has 3 phases:

1. Detoxification
2. Dishabituation
3. Maintenance of abstinence

Detoxification phase

It lasts between 7 days and a month.

It consists of getting the drug eliminated from the body.

It is the phase most afraid of addicts (they can not live without the substance) and is actually the simplest of the three.

Medical supervision is required and usually carried out in detention , deprivation of liberty and isolation in detoxification centers.

Dishabituation phase

It lasts between 6 months and 2 years.

In this phase, the person with problems with drugs has to learn to live without consuming.

Usually, the decontamination begins in a rehabilitation center and little by little it is giving freedom.

It starts with departures from the center accompanied by educators, visits are received from family members and ends with exits of hours or days to the family home and is concluded outside the detox center.

At this stage, although it is no longer internal, it is highly recommended to maintain supportive psychological therapy.

The maintenance phase of abstinence.

shake hands with an alcoholic. It lasts a lifetime.

The drug addict is a chronic sufferer, and should never forget his illness.

Its many relapses because of overconfidence, because the person with problems with drugs is believed capable of controlling addiction.

It is highly recommended to participate in a group of mutual help to overcome day to day risk of relapse.
